Our loving mother and cherished grandmother Siu Ling Chow passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024 in Richmond Hill, ON.

Siu Ling also known as Dip Chun to her many friends was born in Guangdong Province China.

She immigrated to Canada and married Bing Leung in Toronto in 1963. Together they worked long hours to build a successful fruit and vegetable business and raised 3 sons.

She will be remembered by friends and family for her exceptional cooking skills and generosity. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren making sure to always cook their favourite dishes.

Siu Ling was predeceased by her loving husband Bing Leung (May 2023) and survived by her sons William (Cathy), Wayne and Alan (Lisa) and her grandchildren Nicholas, Laura and Nathan.

Mrs. Chow, a.k.a. “Auntie Butterfly” to our family, was a very close friend of our mother. They had known each other long before Mrs. Chow came to Canada and they worked together in Hong Kong. Despite of the long distance, they remained in touch over past fifty-plus years. When I came to Canada to study in 1974, Mrs. Chow and her husband Uncle Bing welcomed me with open arms and helped me settling into a new life. I could not thank them enough for their generosity and kindness.

I have witnessed first-hand how hard the couple worked together to establish Bing’s Fruit Market on Yonge Street. As early Chinese immigrants with language barriers, their accomplishments in Canada cannot be overstated. Their business success certainly speak volumes of their tough character, and abilities to adapt and overcome challenges.

Even with the long working hours, Mrs. Chow took good care of her family, and raised three wonderful sons. She was very proud of her boys and always spoke fondly of her grandchildren. She was truly a Superwoman.

My mother, and the rest of our family, shall miss “Auntie Butterfly” dearly. We shall always remember her laughter and beautiful personality. It is comforting to know that Mr. and Mrs. Chow are now reunited in heaven, happily together once again.

My deepest condolences to your family. I just stumbled across this sad news as I was looking for another family friend on the website. My parents got to know Mr. and Mrs. Chow through classes in Chinatown more than 30 years ago. I wanted you to know we were very grateful of Mr. and Mrs. Chow's warmth to our whole family as new comers to Canada and the delicious food they generously prepared and shared with us on many Thanksgivings. They are dearly missed.

It is saddened to hear the passing of Mrs. Chow who was a close friend of my mom. In my memory, Mrs. Chow was a loving, compassionate and sincere person. Mrs. Chow played an important part of my life since our family moved back in 2000. Our family feel very honored and grateful that we could spend with her on her last birthday. She will always be part of our heart!

My deepest sympathy for the loss to the family. I am so sad to hear the passing of Mrs Chow (our Auntie Butterfly).
To me, Mrs Chow was a cheerful, generous and energetic lady. Although she and Mr. Chow were so busy with their family and fruit business, they still spent time to take care of many kids of their friends from overseas. I am so grateful for their warm hospitality during my stay in Canada. I would always remember their caring and kindness. They will certainly be missed.
