Predeceased by her Uncle Ying Choi Tam of Seattle and survived by great nieces, Fanny and Lilly Tam all of Seattle. Susan was born on May 2, 1930 in Hoiping, China. Her husband, Cheuck Yu immigrated to Canada in 1955. A few years later, Susan and her young son, Raymond immigrated and reunited with him. The family settled in Bellevile, Ontario. Michael was born in Trenton in 1960 and Patricia was born in Belleville in 1962. The family moved to Toronto in 1963. Susan spent most of her working life as a production worker at the National Rubber Company and as a laundress at the Westin Prince Hotel. From humble beginnings, Susan and Cheuck Yu purchased their house on Baldwin Street and established a loving and stable family environment for their family. Susan lived to see her children settled and successful in their careers. Her retirement was spent largely caring and doting on all of her grandchildren. Susan’s life was not without tragedy losing her beloved son prematurely in 2019 to Leukemia. Her resilience was awe inspiring; she rarely complained and never dwelled on her misfortunes. Susan’s last few years at the Mon Sheong Retirement Home were content; her heart was full. Although challenged by health issues after Michael’s death, she was always with a smile with her partner in crime, Jade Yuen. Jade was her caregiver – she was a devoted companion, friend and daughter to Susan and for that, the family will be forever grateful. Susan was cherished and loved by her family and friends.
May her memory be a blessing to us all.
May we become a credit to her name.
