In memory of

Shun Kiu Susan Wong

May 2, 1930 -  April 8, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Shun Kiu Wong who passed away on April 8, 2023. Predeceased by beloved husband, Cheuck Yu Wong and son, Michael Wong. Survived by children, Raymond Wong (Elaina Tso), and Patricia Wong (David Yerzy); daughter- in-law, Sue Yuen, grandchildren Sean, Jordan and Andrew Yerzy, Tyler and Amanda Wong, brother, Brian Hom (Geri Hom) of San Francisco, niece, Tracy Keyser (Brian Keyser), great nephews, Ben and Alex Keyser of all San Francisco. predeceased by her brother, Bing Douglas Hom, San Francisco and survived by nieces Sophie Hom (Chris Amaris), Cynthia Hom, and Lillian Hom of San Francisco, great nieces Michelle, Megan, Zoe, great nephews, Zachery, Ian Amaris of San Francisco and great niece, Chloe, and great nephews, Jordan and Justin Duong all of San Francisco. Predeceased by her Uncle Ying Choi Tam of Seattle and survived by great nieces, Fanny and Lilly Tam all of Seattle. Susan was born on May 2, 1930 in Hoiping, China. Her husband, Cheuck Yu immigrated to Canada in 1955. A few years later, Susan and her young son, Raymond immigrated and reunited with him. The family settled in Bellevile, Ontario. Michael was born in Trenton in 1960 and Patricia was born in Belleville in 1962. The family moved to Toronto in 1963. Susan spent most of her working life as a production worker at the National Rubber Company and as a laundress at the Westin Prince Hotel. From humble beginnings, Susan and Cheuck Yu purchased their house on Baldwin Street and established a loving and stable family environment for their family. Susan lived to see her children settled and successful in their careers. Her retirement was spent largely caring and doting on all of her grandchildren. Susan’s life was not without tragedy losing her beloved son prematurely in 2019 to Leukemia. Her resilience was awe inspiring; she rarely complained and never dwelled on her misfortunes. Susan’s last few years at the Mon Sheong Retirement Home were content; her heart was full. Although challenged by health issues after Michael’s death, she was always with a smile with her partner in crime, Jade Yuen. Jade was her caregiver – she was a devoted companion, friend and daughter to Susan and for that, the family will be forever grateful. Susan was cherished and loved by her family and friends.

May her memory be a blessing to us all.
May we become a credit to her name.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. Mrs. Wong always carried her big joyful smile as long as I can remember. Always jovial, welcoming & gracious. She leaves me with wonderful memories during my visits to your Baldwin St. home many years ago. Of course who could forget her great love & passion for a game of Mah jong with her friends & neighbours. I can actually hear the Mah jong blocks klacking & the excitement in the (summer) air of your childhood home (usually on a Friday evening) ... as I write this. God bless Mrs. Wong, may her kind spirit touch us all. With fondest memories & deepest sympathy, kindly Wendy Kwong
