In memory of

Shook Fong Yuen

January 22, 1921 -  December 22, 2016

Yim Shook Fong was born in Hong Kong China in 1921. She grew up with four brothers and one sister. She received secondary school education which was unusual at the time for girls. During war time, she moved between Hong Kong and her family home in Canton, China.

She married Yuen Cheung Ching in 1940's and had 5 kids. She was a home maker and never worked. Yet she understood the importance of education and was able to give her kids the support to pursue further education in North America.

She was active most of her life. She enjoyed morning exercise. In HK, almost daily, she walked from Robinson Road to Victoria Peak. Occasionally, she walked all the way to Aberdeen to have Dim Sum with her friends. She always played MaJong with the same group of friends.

She immigrated to Canada in 1980 and lived in Toronto ever since. Her husband died from a heart attack in 1988 and she stayed in her condo by herself at Don Mills road. Even with the cold weather in Toronto, she remained active and continued her morning exercise until her early 90's. She liked to go to Dim Sum restaurants and enjoyed quality Chinese food. During the 1990's and early part of the 21st century, we had almost annual family gatherings on cruises. She participated in close to 10 different cruises in the Caribbean, Central America, Alaska and North East America. She enjoyed most when all her kids and grandkids were sitting together in 2-3 dining tables fighting for food.

She was always exceptionally witty and earned much respect from her grand kids. Comments about grandma were usually - cool, amazing, unorthodox, smart and hero! She always made the kids laugh and they always wanted to visit her.

She attended her eldest grandson's wedding in 2008 in Toronto and her second eldest grand daughter's wedding 2012 in North Carolina. She was not able to attend her eldest grand daughter's wedding in 2016 due to traveling hazard. She enjoyed 2 great granddaughters and one great grandson.

She had signs of Alzheimer since 2012 and had different forms of heart failures since then. However, she always insisted on living independently and guarding her privacy fiercely and never wanted to burden anyone including her closest relatives - she was truly an exceptional and amazing woman.
