Shindi Cho Chung was born on March 30th, 1967 at 26 Hill Street in Georgetown, Guyana. She was born 20 minutes to 1 am. She was a bouncing white milk Chinese looking baby with very straight hair. Many folks wanted to see this beautiful baby on a Thursday night. She grew up in Allboystown and Houston then finally moved to Prospect. She attend Carmel RC in Charlestown and then attended St Johns collage. She was a brilliant student always placing top of her class.

Grandparents Latifan and Shafiee Mohammed and parents Bibi Shida Mohammed and Cho Chung were very excited to welcome their baby girl and youngest of their family Shindi Cho Chung. She is survived by two older brothers Fizul and Myrvin Mohammed. Her older brothers would always be there for her as they attended school. She was also an aunt to Sahib (Anthony) Cho Chung. Shindi met the love of her life in the early 1984 and married Ivelaw (Ivor) Chung on Dec 21, 1991. Not so long after in Shindi and her husband Ivelaw (Ivor) Chung had their first born son Ivelaw Junior Chung on May 7th, 1987. They immigrated to Canada to pursue various opportunities. In 1992 the family was reunited and shortly thereafter welcomed their second born son Adrian Alberik Chung on June 6th, 1993.

Shindi worked for Amhil Enterprises North America most of her adult life starting in the production side of things and working her way up the ladder to an accounts clerk. Her coworker describe her as cheerful and always on top of things. She was very much respected and loved by her colleagues. At company events she would often be in charge of the planning committees. Shindi often described her work place as a second home with a family atmosphere.

Shindi was of Christian Anglican faith and loved the relationship she had with God. She attending the Church of the Holy Spirit in Mississsauga. Shindi’s faith in God helped her maintain a sense of hope and optimism during tough times.

“Shindi was a daughter, a sister and friend to me. She was a very beautiful girl and enjoyed to cook. She was very friendly and engaged in conversation with others. She was a quiet person but always provided excellent advice if ever asked. She was very supportive and there to lend a hand. Shindi was always content with what life and the lord provided. Shindi would always try her best to provide to her siblings.” – Bibi Shida Mohammed

On August 6th, 2017 Shindi excitedly welcomed her first grandchild Akira Jade Chung. Akira brought a new sense of hope and optimism to her life. Grandma Shindi was now thrilled to have a rejuvenating outlook for the future. Newly adorned grandparents were always there for Akira and very happy to take her on trips, visits and sleepovers. There was never a dull moment when Akira was around her loving grandma. Shindi spoke of missing Akira’s energy and smile and overt enthusiasm. In public many people mistook Akira for Shindi’s own daughter given how much she looks and acts like her grandma. They share a love for family and a passion for life. Akira took so many great traits from her grandma including her zeal to help others and always lend a hand. Shindi instilled many life lessons and morals for Akira to live by. Most importantly, Shindi always ensured Akira and everyone around her were fed. We will always ensure that Akira remembers her awesome Grandmother Shindi.

“My mother was very committed to her goals and aspirations whether interior design or fashion. She was an amazing friend, amazing mother and an amazing wife. I couldn’t have asked for a better grandmother for my daughter. She provided me with so much wisdom on how to raise my daughter Akira. Mom was always inspiring my brother and I to chase our dreams and drive towards our goals. She made the best food. She was always one of my biggest fans, always in my corner cheering me on. She taught me how to cook and important life lessons.” – Ivelaw Junior Chung

Shindi’s love of family was unparalleled. Anyone that met her called her aunty and enjoyed being in her presence. She was always first in line to help at events, weddings or any other family gatherings. Most of the time she was the leader providing directions to all around her, even if you didn’t ask. Her spirit and memory will always be remembered by the impact she has had on so many lives. Her kindness and generosity was unmatched. Shindi always made things feel calm even when times were uncertain. She always brought hope and optimism wherever she went. She was never a judgmental person, she believed in teaching and learning from mistakes.

In 2016 Shindi was diagnosed with a rare form of metastatic gastric cancer. This was something devastating to deal with knowing her first grandchild was on the way. Shindi dealt with her cancer and treatments with grace and resilience. When she found out the advanced stages of her cancer she immediately chose to fight. Like everything Shindi did, this was something she would overcome and beat. The stage 4 cancer was going to have a battle ahead. Shindi was able to courageously manage the symptoms and illness for 6 long years. This included 3 bouts of chemotherapy. Shindi dealt with her illness with dignity and with a true spirit for life. She was a champion and committed to living life. Many folks who met her did not even know she was suffering with stage 4 cancer. She made everyone’s life better for knowing her. Sadly, on September 8th we lost our amazing angel.

Shindi had a true zest for life and asks that everyone wear white on day of her funeral if you can and also not to wear black for her viewing. She wanted this to be a colorful event. Thank you!
