In memory of
Shin Ja Lee
December 26, 1944 -
February 23, 2017
Shin Ja Lee. Passed peacefully on February 23, 2017 in Kingston Ontario, surrounded by her adoring family. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 48 years, Young Sun Lee. Loving mother of Peter Jang-Hung Lee and Susie Min-Jung Lee and their spouses Anh Nguyen and Michael Blackmore. Proud grandmother of William Blackmore, Alexandra Lee, Madeline Blackmore, Erik Lee and Isabella Lee.
Shin Ja Lee was born in Kwang-ju, Republic of Korea, on December 26, 1944, daughter of Ok Do Lee and Nim Yoo Yang. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters, all of whom she loved dearly.
A graduate of Ewha Women’s University (1968), Shin Ja Lee met the love of her life, Young Sun Lee, in 1964 and later married on September 27, 1968. In February, 1976 they immigrated to Canada to start a new life for themselves and their children, Peter and Susie. Canada, and more specifically Toronto, was her home for more than 41 years, although her heart was never far from Korea.
In Canada, Shin Ja Lee found employment first with the federal government, and later as a private business owner. A tireless worker and perfectionist, she deeply enjoyed spending time with close friends and family. In retirement she revelled in golfing, and in her later years dedicated herself to Asian art and calligraphy, at which she excelled. She instilled a profound work ethic and commitment to family in Peter and Susie.
Shin Ja Lee’s greatest role came when she became a grandmother with the arrival of her first grandchild, William, in 2004, followed by Alexandra, Madeline, Erik and Bella, all of whom she loved unconditionally and who loved her dearly in return.
Shin Ja Lee was a kind, loving, and selfless woman. She was the pillar of her family and will be missed dearly by all who had the good fortune to know and love her.
