The family are saddened to announce that Sheila, at age 95, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2022, at Brampton Civic Hospital. She was the matriarch of the family and widowed from her husband Daniel J. Hyde after 50 years of marriage. Sheila will be forever missed by her four children, David (Heather), Diane, Bruce (Angela) and Karen. She was a devoted grandmother to Jennifer (Dave), Kerri, Nicole, Brent (Claire), Joanne (Jamie), Julie (Blake), Paul (Tina) and Logan (Max). Sheila was also a devoted great grandmother to Kayla, Kenneth, Dylan, Skylar, Nathan, Leah, Aaliyah, Jordan and Emerson. Sheila was the eldest of her 8 brothers and 2 sisters, survived by Harold, Henry, Diane and David who will sorely miss her along with their families and her predeceased siblings ‘families.

Sheila worked as an OHIP Processing Clerk for the government and retired after a long career there. She was very proud of the home she and her late husband renovated on Bannon Avenue in Toronto and her resourcefulness in finding deals on building materials and negotiations involved. She was a take charge lady and was gifted with sewing, so made her own drapes, bedspreads, clothes for her, family and friends. The Hyde house was homey and hosted many large parties with family and friends often. Many looked forward to her special homemade treats and cooking and to holidays there. Her brothers will often boast about their big sister being integral in getting them their bearings, helping them move to Ontario, finding them jobs and providing room and board until they could fly on their own. The Hyde children are so close to their uncles for this reason and were used to always lots of family around. Sheila was very kind and sweet, but you best behave say many of her nephews and nieces, because you didn’t want to mess with her, as she also had a commanding presence. To her grandchildren, she was more than Nanny as they called her, she was a second mother and very involved in rearing them. She was top on the list for her children and grandchildren to call for advice, sharing news and when in need of comfort. Sheila was truly a remarkable lady, someone all who knew her held in high esteem and admired for her strength and all she had accomplished and done selflessly for others. She was very important to her family and friends and was always there for you...no need to ask. Our beautiful memories of her will always remain in our hearts.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE with reception lunch will be held 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday September 18th for family and friends at The Simple Alternative Funeral Center in Mississauga. The date arranged will allow for cremation and for out-of-town guests to make travel arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, at heartandstroke.ca would be appreciated.
