In memory of

Sharon Rumiko Ichikawa

December 2, 1950 -  March 16, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sharon Ichikawa on March 16, 2025, at the age of 74. She leaves behind her devoted and adoring husband of 49 years, Bill McGuire. She is survived by her siblings Joel (Nancy), Glen (Moo), and Brenda (Jeff), as well as her beloved nieces and nephews: Maui, Brad, Emma, Margaret, Jordan, Jonathan, and Chloe. She was predeceased by her brother Dennis (Gloria). Sharon will also be dearly missed by her aunt, uncles, and cousins, along with her many friends from around the world who were like family to her.

Born in London, Ontario, Sharon was the eldest of five children of Jiro and Lucy Ichikawa. She graduated from Western University and later earned a degree from OCAD University. She built a successful career as an art director in the advertising industry, working for major agencies before founding her own company.

Sharon had an adventurous spirit and a deep passion for exploring the world with Bill. Together, they traveled across continents, embracing new experiences at every turn. The only destination left on their list was Antarctica. Their travels took them from canoeing on safari in Zimbabwe to paddling down the Nahanni River, trekking through Machu Picchu, and immersing themselves in the cultures of Turkey, India, Tibet, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Egypt, Jordan, Chile, Mexico, and Zambia.

Beyond her love of adventure, Sharon was immensely creative, kind, and deeply compassionate. She had a genuine interest in people, always making those around her feel seen and valued. Her infectious joie de vivre inspired everyone who knew her. She also had an incredible sense of humour. A passionate lover of the arts, she found joy in theatre, film and the visual arts and was a talented photographer. She also loved the culinary arts and gardening.

If one were to describe Sharon in just a few words, they would be: elegant, creative, curious, and caring.

Forever missed but never forgotten.

Dear Billy, aka McGuire
Sharon's obituary was beautiful. You two globetrotters sure got around. I know you will miss her dearly; she was your person, your champion. She was a special lady who put up with your dry wit. You were one lucky guy to have met Sharon on that trip to Cuba many moons ago. Keep her memory alive.
