It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shan-Tang (Tom) Cheng, a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on October 1, 2025, at the age of 53.

Born in Taiwan, and raised in Toronto, Tom navigated life with developmental & physical disabilities, but he lived a life marked by joy in the simple things. He loved reading and collecting books and maps, enjoying his Tim Horton’s iced capp, exploring Toronto via the TTC, frequenting the Eaton’s Centre, being part of his church family, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Eunice Cheng, his father PT Cheng, his brother Wayne and sister-in-law Karen. Special uncle to Tanner & Connor. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a memorial reception where the friends and family of Tom can gather and remember Tom together. It will be held on Friday October 10 from 4-6pm at the York Cemetery and Funeral Centre in North York. Formal remembrances with occur around 4:30pm.

A heartfelt “Thank-You” to Tom’s long-time friend & social worker, Daniel, and to the Mission Kare Life staff that had most recently cared for Tom so well. Also, a sincere thank-you to so many church brothers & sisters who have shown Tom compassion and love for all of his time living in Toronto.

May Tom rest in peace, fully restored, spending eternity with the God he knows and loves.
