In memory of

Serena Tammy Lem

July 3, 1977 -  July 26, 2023

Serena Lem died unexpectedly on July 26 from a rupture that led to a heart attack. She was 46 years old. Family and friends are deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death.

She will be remembered for many things. Her love for reading books, food, Disney, BTS, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and anime. Her joy of arts and crafts, particularly cross-stitching. Her wonder of television and movies, so much so that she earned a degree in Radio and Television Arts. Her kindness and her grumpiness. Her work ethic, honesty and directness. Her supportive nature and her dedication to others around her.

Serena is survived by her mom, her sister, her brother-in-law, and an abundance of family and friends. We will miss her more than words can say.

She would be touched to know about the outpouring of love and well-wishes from all who knew her. To quote her favourite character, Eeyore, from The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh: “Thanks for noticin' me.”

• Please designate your gift to The Fred A. Litwin Family Centre in Genetic Medicine.
• Several years ago, Serena had a rare case of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in young females. It usually occurs in males and over the age of 60. Serena and her immediate family have been followed closely by researchers to determine relationships between genetics and health data in the hope of developing future diagnostic and treatment techniques for others.

I went to school in Mississauga with Serena. She was so smart and had the best brightest smile. I am saddened to hear of her passing. I send my condolences to her family and hope they find peace in the memories of her.
