In memory of

Seeranie Rampersaud

October 27, 1932 -  January 22, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Seeranie Rampersaud, on January 22, 2025, at the remarkable age of 92. Seeranie was born in Reliance Abandon, East Canje, Berbice, to the late Petamber and Sookrajia Chinwa. She was the fourth of eleven children and was deeply cherished by her siblings. She shared a loving and enduring partnership with her late husband, Parmanand Rampersaud, building a life together that exemplified strength, dedication, and compassion.

Seeranie is survived by her children Vera (Paul), Ganesh (Di), Radika (Ken), and Mala (Dave) and her treasured grandchildren Angel, Chase, Seโ€™era, Kera, Dayna, Reesha, Kieran, Andrew, and Neena. She is also mourned by her siblings, Sybil, Lizzie, and Seelal, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and kindness.

A quiet and reserved soul, Seeranie embodied a gentle dignity and an unwavering sense of responsibility. She treated everyone she encountered with kindness and respect, always leading by example. In times of need, she extended a helping hand, offering food and groceries to neighbours struggling during difficult times in Guyana. Her acts of compassion left a deep-rooted mark on all who knew her.

As a young girl, Seeranie found joy in swimming in the canals near the sugar fields, a memory she carried fondly throughout her life. Later, she developed a deep love for Indian cinema, particularly the films of Shami Kapoor, and cherished her Sunday visits to the theatre to enjoy them.

Seeranie had a rich and fulfilling life. She worked alongside her husband to run their family business, a testament to her dedication and resilience. She was also a talented seamstress, creating beautiful garments for her children with great care and skill. Whether sewing, tatting, or knitting, her hands were always busy creating something meaningful for her family.

After moving to Canada with Parmanand, she embraced her life in downtown Toronto. She took great pride in her apartment, keeping it impeccably tidy. She found joy in simple pleasures, from reading and understanding Hindi fluently to spending time with her loved ones.

Seeranieโ€™s strength, grace, and kindness left a legacy that will be cherished by all. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends and in the countless lives she touched with her love and generosity.
