In memory of

Carmelo Sciberras

January 13, 1937 -  June 16, 2022

Carmelo Sciberras was a gentlemen who wore many hats:
husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to many people. He brought happiness to all that met him.
He could not do enough to help his friends, strangers, and family. Helping was in his nature.
His fellow tradesmen respected him for his honesty, dedication to quality workmanship, and his genuine friendship.
His family loved him for his unselfish dedication by way of giving of his time over and over again.
Charlie, as he was called, was an exceptional tailor in his native Malta, and still enjoyed working on the odd garment repair here in Canada, where he felt relaxed at the sewing machine.
He left everything behind and traveled to Canada with his wife Doris and four children under the age of 4, with a few dollars in his pocket, to provide a better future for his family, tirelessly working eighty hours a week to provide for his family.
Self-taught as a machinist, he quickly rose to the ranks of supervisor, self-taught as a renovator, a professional repair man/handyman, eventually working for a large developer that respected him so much, they kept him on until the age of 75.
Loved by the corporation's management, his fellow workers and the homeowners for which he enjoyed fixing things for, and simply taking the time to have real conversations with people, for which he became adored for. He accomplished all this and more without being able to read, which he eventually taught himself to do.
As a member of the Maltese Band Club, he brought joy and happiness to all members, with his great wit and dancing skills. Over three decades, he developed and cultivated a magnificent garden, which occupied much of his time.
He lovingly took care of his wife of 65 years, Doris, as she dealt with dementia over the last few years of his life.
Although he was always busy, he still found the time to be with his children and grandkids.
Charlie’s biggest contribution was the affect he had on everyone he met. He will be missed beyond measure.

My dad "Carmelo" also known as "Charlie" was my hero, and my best friend, there wasn't a stronger man in a 100 pound frame of a man. My dad was a man of many talents, he taught me many life lessons during our precious time together. I will miss him deeply. He will always be in my thoughts as I now live with the beautiful and wonderful memories of him. My dad was eighty-five years young, during his retirement he loved to be in the garden, this was a real pleasure for him and of course the day before his stroke he was out there attending to his garden. My dad loved my mom, and it will be my duty to ensure she is supported in his absence as he would have wanted her to be surrounded by her children and extended family. I inserted a portrait "picture" of my dad and mom before they came to Canada, this pictures shows the love they had for each other for over 60 plus years. My father adored my mother right up to the day he left us on June 16, 2022. With love your son Peter. RIP

A funeral liturgy on the feast of L'Imnarja - how appropriate.

May the Lord receive you into His eternal kingdom of light and peace, and may your family know the consolation of divine grace.

Be assured of my remembrance in my Mass on 29 June.

Peace ! - Fr. Edwin Galea

There is a saying "jack of all trades master of none: however Charlie proved this wrong because he is "jack of all trades and master of all" He truly was able do any job and he did it the best. I remember when I bought my first car he helped me paint the whole underneath of the car so it want rust. No easy job but he enjoyed helping me. He was and stayed a very loving husband right to the end. My dear sister Doris will dearly miss him.
On a happy note there is the hope of the resurrection. Acts 24: 15 says "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." This resurrection will be here on this earth under the Kindom of God. We and the resurrected ones will enjoy turning the earth into a paradise. Charlie will really be able to put all his skills to good use not just for a few years but forever. You see the Bible says at Roman's 6: 7 " For the one who has died has been acquitted from his sins."
He will now rest in peace till the resurrection. Love to Doris and all the family from her brother John and from my wife Flora.
