It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sau Yan James Cheung, who left us peacefully on August 6, 2024, in Richmond Hill, Canada, surrounded by his loving family. He was 91 years old.
James was born on May 2, 1933, in Canton, China. A man of great character and warmth, James was known for his fun-loving nature, his passion for good food, and his booming voice that filled any room. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, making memories that will be treasured forever.
James lived a life full of resilience and courage. He battled Parkinson’s disease for nearly a decade, facing each challenge with strength and grace. Remarkably, he also survived two bouts of COVID-19 during this time, demonstrating his unwavering will to live.
Professionally, since the late 1960s, James played a pivotal role in establishing the Toyota brand in the Hong Kong and China markets for almost 15 years. He took pride in his work and loved sharing stories from his past, imparting wisdom and life lessons to anyone willing to listen.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Su Bai, his three children, Anita, Homan, and Liana, along with Homan’s spouse, Diana, and Liana’s spouse, Loke. He was a proud grandfather to Aiden and Owen, who brought him immense joy in his later years.
James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His laughter, his stories, and his love for life will remain in our hearts forever.
