In memory of

Sathiabaladevi Tharma

May 9, 1928 -  July 18, 2023

A cherished soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 18, 2023. She will be greatly missed by her children, Chitra and Raveendar, her grandchildren, Kishan, Nishani, Harrish and Luxmila, her great-grandchildren, Nivya, Liyah and Nikil, and her brothers, Kumar and Sanjeevi. Predeceased by her beloved husband Sivapragasam Tharma whom she is now reunited with after 64 years.

Born on May 9, 1928, in Sri Lanka, Sathia's life's journey took an unexpected turn when she lost her beloved husband in 1959. Despite the profound grief she endured, she found strength in the love she had for her children. As a mother, Sathia poured her heart into nurturing her children. She was a constant source of support, encouragement, resilience and love. She immigrated to Canada in 1981 where she then affectionately raised her grandchildren with loving care and dedication. She was fond of reading, cooking and her soap operas, but most of all being at home with her family. She would write letters, talk on the phone with family and friends around the world, as she would always be most happy when surrounded by loved ones.

Despite the challenges brought on by Alzheimer's in the last decade of her life, Sathia maintained her gentle nature and kind spirit, leaving an enduring impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate staff of Markhaven Home for Seniors.

Our lives are all better for being loved by her as her love was unconditional and genuine for everyone who was privileged to have experienced it. She will forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada for further funding for research.

Ammaunty I created the name for her
After that all my sibling and including my big cousins started call her 'Ammaunty'
She was well known lady in our village and call her 'Sathiyaba' or 'Ammaunty'.
She had made my childhood better, with her presence and her love. Whenever she comes to my mind, here wondafully dressed personality with her gentle smile. When I was small everyday visited her and sat in her front house , talking old memories .... It can't finish... Wonderful memories.
Her memories continued to my daughter too. She created her own name 'piya', instead of 'paarty'.
..... .. The fact that Ammaunty you're no longer here will always cause me pain but you're in my heart until we meet again in another world "
