With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra Anne Ypelaar at her home on January 17, 2020 in her 81st year, following a two-year battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Luke for 59 years and co-founder of Luke’s Mower & Machine Ltd., she was proud to help celebrate over 50 years in business together. Loving mother to Mark and Lisa, daughter-in-law Alison and son-in-law Leslie. Cherished Nana to Serena, Olivia, Nicholas, Dean, and Danielle. Predeceased by her parents Frank and Hannah Meads, and her sister Carol (Baden) McConnell. Sandra will be fondly remembered by family members throughout Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, and the US.

A graduate of Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, Sandra was known for her strong faith, unfailingly positive spirit, and caring nature. Through the Anglican Church she found purpose and joy participating in Christian fellowship, pastoral care work, and refugee sponsorship programs. Together with Luke, she enjoyed hiking the Bruce Trail, travelling the world, exercising with friends, and dancing up a storm. We would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Brampton Civic Hospital for their kindness and care.

Family and Friends will be received at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE- MISSISSAUGA 1535 South Gateway Road (at Dixie Road, two lights south of Eglinton) 905-602-1580 on Friday, January 31st, 2020 for a Memorial Gathering anytime between 4-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at 11 a.m. at CHRIST THE KING CHURCH, 475 Rathburn Road., Etobicoke. When I first began at Headwaters in 2002 as Coordinator of Spiritual Care, Sandra Ypelaar was already in place as a volunteer chaplain. In the years she was on my team she was a never ending source of encouragement to me. Many times she spoke a word that cheered me just when I needed it. She ministered conscientiously and was part of the team that took on-call work. When she retired from chaplaincy and moved back to Etobicoke, I missed her very much. She was a very special woman who demonstrated God’s love in many ways to a countless number of patients, their families and staff members.

My prayers will be with the family as they mourn this loos.

I only knew Sandra for a short period of time. She was an active volunteer chaplain when I joined the ministry at Headwaters Health Care Centre a few years ago. Sandra was a wonderful, caring person who had a beautiful smile. She assisted me in many ways and I will never forget her. My condolences to her family and may God watch over them as they grieve.
