In memory of

Samuel and Joanne Walker

Joanne, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in her 98th year, with family and companions by her side. Joanne was born to Ivan and Dorothy Morris and was older sister to brother John. She grew up in Toronto and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force two days after her 18th birthday. Upon her discharge, she was a valuable employee at Imperial Oil.

Joanne married Samuel Walker in 1949 and raised four children in their home in North York where they lived for 45 years. Joanne lived a long, wonderful life and will be missed dearly by those who knew her well. She will be remembered for the way she deeply loved and cared for her family, friends and neighbours. With an exquisite combination of nurturing, determination, thoughtfulness, and feistiness, she was the anchor in her family who made sure everyone had what they needed. She had an exceptional ability to connect with others through sharing stories, experiences and laughter. Joanne enjoyed family visits and parties, being with friends, playing golf and bridge, going to the theatre, participating in aquafit and travelling.

Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband, Samuel Walker, with whom she was married for 72 years. She is survived by her children David (Lynne), Dianne (Phil), Cathy (David), Peter (Lilly). Grandchildren Lisa, Scott (Meaghan), Eric (Lindsay), Andrea, Lindsey (Brent), Chris, Reed, Matthew and great grandchildren Alex, Gavin and Ethan, Leah and Charlie.

Family are sincerely grateful to the three companions who provided support for Joanne with love and compassion. Family would also like to thank Dr. Deering and the wonderful nursing, social work, recreation staff at the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital for the care and support provided over the past 3 ½ years.

A celebration of life for Sam and Joanne will be held on Friday Jan 13th starting at 1pm at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd, reception to follow. The service will be live-streamed from www.etouch.ca under Samuel and Joanne Walker. Should you wish to make a donation in honour of Joanne, please consider a donation to www.legion.ca/donations.

After reading your Mother’s obituary, I now understand where the bright caring light that shines within you comes from, Dianne. Your Mother and Father were wonderful role models for you. With a job well done, they can now rest together. Peter and I are very sorry for the loss of your dear parents.

I’m sending the family my sincere condolences on the loss of your mom and dad whom I’ve known for many decades. We have shared many memories on Wigmore Drive going way back to nursery school. I miss seeing them here at the condo, where we both ended up living, after leaving Wigmore Drive.
Sincerely,
Jean and Carol Oxley

Dear David, Dianne, Cathy, Peter and all the family, I am so sorry for your loss of your mother. I know it is hard but together you will be able to make the pain become a little less. I know Sam has not gone so long ago and you are still dealing with that loss as well.
Jo was a real trouper and I was privileged to have her as a friend and neighbour living on Wigmore Drive. I hold many wonderful memories of her kindness, determination, take charge, caring and creative ways. She will be missed but now she again can be joined with Sam.
Love
Joan Lo Presti

Dear Members of the Walker extended family, I am sending my thoughts and condolences to all of you on the passing of your Mom and Dad. My parents, Peter and Peggy knew your parents well as they often crossed paths on many of their mutual walks through the neighbourhood and as your parents walked down Elvaston, passing our family home along the way. A friendly smile and a cheery hello is how I remember them both. Take care.
