Samuel “Sam” Boyd, beloved husband of Kathleen. Loving father of Sam (Rose), Elizabeth and David. Cherished Grandfather “Granda” to Steven (Ashley), Stephanie (Justin), Matthew (Deanna), Amanda, Andrew and Alexander. Great-Granda of Kenzie, Rayna, and Kai. Dear brother to Isobel (George), Alex (Wilma), and Margaret (Chris). Brother-in-law to the late Marie, Dorothy, Elizabeth (Robert), Violet and Olive (Cyril). Predeceased by his parents William and Bella.
Sam was born on March 21st, 1943 in Belfast, Northern Ireland where he worked as a police officer. In 1968, Sam along with his wife Kathleen and children left Ireland and immigrated to Canada aboard the “Empress of Canada” ship. This ship later became Carnival’s first cruise ship named “Mardi Gras”. Once in Canada, Sam drove for the TTC, whilst working on real estate endeavours. He then drove school buses for the Toronto District School Board for 37 years, later retiring at 67 years of age. Sam passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, November 9th, 2018 at the age of 75. He will be remembered for being thoughtful, generous, humorous and a lover of all animals including his dogs, cats and budgies over the years.
Friends and family will be received at FaithWay Baptist Church (1964 Salem Rd, Ajax) on Tuesday, November 13th from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Following the service, Sam will be laid to rest at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens (541 Taunton Rd W, Ajax). In memory of Sam, donations may be made to the SickKids Foundation or FaithWay Baptist Church Missions in lieu of flowers.
