“Sam” (Stanley Lional) Roher, December 8, 1952 – May 26, 2022
Sam passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 69, after a brief and courageous battle with spinal cord injuries. He was caught in a sudden windstorm on Saturday May 21, 2022, and was hit by a falling tree while out on one of his daily 30 km bike rides.
Sam was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. Born in Toronto on December 8, 1952 to the late Albert Roher and Helen (Coleman) Roher, survived and lovingly remembered by his brothers Joe (Judy), Steve (Jane), and sister Ruthie.
He often reminisced about his happy childhood in Toronto. As a teenager, Sam developed a passion and talent for music, and he played the drums in many bands over the years, spanning a range of musical genres. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Newman). The couple have many wonderful friends, many of whom have had a lot of fun jamming in Sam and Linda’s music room, and playing golf with Sam.
Sam was an amazing father, father-in-law, and grandfather, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his son Jesse (Shondra), daughter Amy (Cory), and grandchildren (Emma, Kate, Audrey, Leia, Norah, and Simone).
He enjoyed a long career as a letter carrier at Canada Post. Sam was well-suited to this type of work because he loved spending the majority of his time outdoors, listening to music, being active, and practicing mindfulness.
Sam had many charities that he supported, but the two that were closest to his heart were Parkinson Canada as well as Durham Outlook for the Needy, where he volunteered for many years. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sam’s name to either of these charities.
Sam was an organ donor. His final act of generosity is now helping others in need.
In addition to the visitation on Wednesday (see details below), there will be a celebration of Sam's life on Saturday, July 23rd at The Tap and Tankard, 224 Brock St. South in Whitby, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Come out and enjoy some of Sam's favourite music, have a drink, and celebrate his life with family and friends, Sam-style.
Thank you.
