In memory of

Saleh Majid-Agha

May 22, 1950 -  May 13, 2018

Saleh “Sali” Majid-Agha, 67, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday May 13th, 2018 at Toronto General Hospital. Born in Deir Ez-Zor, Syria, he was a son of the late Abdul Kader and Halimeh Majid-Agha.

Saleh was lucky enough to live a few different lives. He started from humble beginnings in Syria and left at the age of 17, never to return again. He traveled and eventually settled and studied in Hungary for several years. After learning Hungarian and working on his degree he once again started over in Romania, where he completed his PhD in mechanical engineering. His grasp of languages however resulted in him being offered work as a translator and he did this for several years. It was during this time that he fell in love and married Rodica, and had his son Rami. Due to uncertain times, he moved with his new family to former West Germany. After several years he found himself with his wife and son in Canada, his final destination. It was here that he had his daughter Caroline and worked his way up from an electronics store to being a project engineer at a major automotive firm.

His career came to an end when he was granted early retirement due to his congenital heart condition. In his later years, he beat many odds and puzzled doctors on numerous occasions. He put up an incredibly strong fight, and won several times in a row, defying odds and successfully recovering from many surgeries. Unfortunately we all come to learn that no winning streak lasts forever.

For all those fortunate to know him, Saleh was an avid storyteller and could fill a room with laughter and positive energy. He could easily befriend anyone and everyone and had this aura that could brighten anyone’s day up. He was incredibly positive and was full of life and truly enjoyed all of life’s pleasures. He never judged people, was a wonderful listener, and had nothing bad to say about anyone. He was an avid reader, able to converse about any subject, especially politics. He spoke several languages and was a natural artist, talented cook, challenging chess player and an big fan of music and of course afternoon teas in the garden.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Rodica (Berechet); son Rami, daughter Caroline, Ruby (his puppy) and his extended family, neighbours and friends.

We’d like to give an immense thank you to Dr. Oechslin, Dr. Roche, Dr. Charla as well as Dr. Fleshner and rest of the caring and compassionate team members at the Peter Munk Cardiac Clinic.

Cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Funeral Centre.

Donations in Saleh’s memory may be made to the Toronto General Hospital Congenital Cardiac Clinic.

* If you are interested in bringing flowers, please bring potted perennials to plant in his memory, rather than cut flowers.

Our life is defined not by what we have, but the impressions we leave behind on others. Saleh managed to do just that in such a simple yet remarkable way. I didn't know Saleh for a long period of time, but he managed to leave such a beautiful long lasting impression on my heart. My condolences to his family and may his memory forever be eternal ♡
