Gopie, Sagand (Paul) passed away on May 15, 2026 at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Cecilia, in 2015. Sagand will be sadly missed by his daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Fraites, his son, Anthony (Tony) Gopie and his son, Christopher (Chris) Gopie, his grandchildren Lisa, Michael, David, Kirsten, Skyler, Joshua, and Cianna and his great- grandchildren Bradley, Lily, Ayden, Tyler, and Sarah.
Sagand was born to Ramdularie and Daywon Gopie on May 25, 1932 in Guyana. He lived in Guyana until he was a young man and then moved to the island of Aruba where he met Cecilia, the love of his life.
After marrying Cecilia, they moved to Montreal, Quebec, where the happy couple put all of their energies into raising their three children, Jackie, Tony and Chris.
Sagand spent many years babysitting his seven grandchildren. He loved spending time with them as children and later as adults. Later he was happy to spend time with his great-grandchilren.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest passion was dedicating all his love, help, and support to his family and anyone else he encountered.
Other than family, Sagand absolutely loved the movies where he worked part time until he was 90. He was even on an episode of Undercover Boss in 2012 when he worked at Cineplex, Richmond Hill. In addition, Sagand and Cecilia loved their Calypso music and would be ever present dancing up a storm in a dance hall, on a cruise ship or on Clearwater Beach in Florida.
Sagand also loved cooking and his family enjoyed his delicious meals such as fried rice, omelettes, curry chicken, turkey, ham, and stir fries. Even his great- grandchildren enjoyed his meals as he was cooking until he was 90 years old.
He also loved gardening and his yard was always full of beautiful flowers and plants.
He leaves us rich in loving and everlasting happy memories.
