In memory of
Saale Ramat
July 14, 1927 -
June 22, 2019
On June 22nd, 2019 at Ehatare Retirement Home, Saale Ramat (née Meiusi) passed away suddenly at the age of 91. Saale was the beloved wife to the late Walter Ramat (Raamat), cherished mother to Uno and Esther (Tom), treasured grandmother to Krista and Dylan. Sister to the late Õie, Johannes, Erna, Heinrich, Eveline, Benita, Lorinda, and half-sister to the late Natalie and Erik. Saale was born on July 14, 1927 in Hiiumaa, Estonia to Siim and Maria. In 1948, Saale arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax as a refugee, after braving a long journey across the Atlantic Ocean on the SS Walnut to escape Soviet rule. In May 1956, she married Walter and went on to raise two children. Saale had a kind spirit and a love for gardening, animals, sewing, and being with family. Saale took joy in growing fresh fruits and vegetables at her home in Toronto and a sprawling garden at her summer home in Collingwood. Throughout the years, Saale enjoyed spending time outdoors with her friends and family, whether it was dancing the night away as a young woman at Seedrioru, at the cottage playing on the beach with her grandkids, or in the backyard enjoying sunshine and her family’s company. Saale was an impressive woman and a fighter, having conquered both colon and breast cancer in her later years. She will be remembered as a kind, caring, brave woman and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
