Russell James Brandon passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home in Scarborough at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his daughter Cindy and her husband Wayne, his granddaughters Shannon and Paige and his siblings Gary, Stella, Andrea and Mary-Lou. Russell was born on March 27, 1935, in Toronto to his parents Marjory and Harry. He was a passionate activist and well known amongst the community as a pioneer of youth programs and sports leagues. He founded the Blantyre Youth Association, which provided organized sports and activities to the neighbourhood in the early 70s. He spent his career working at Scarborough Public Utilities, where he won multiple awards for customer service and community involvement. A celebration of life will be held at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229), on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Russell's life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Russell's name to The Stephen Lewis Foundation or a charity of your choice.
