Josef (Joe) Kurt Rosenhammer, passed away, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. Josef was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. “Opa,” as he was called by his grandchildren and loved dearly, was also an amazing husband, dad and son.

Josef was born December 23, 1924 in Linz, Austria to Adolf and Adele Rosenhammer. Josef worked in his father’s garage and after the sudden passing of his father he found himself working and studying hard to get his business master degree with auto spray painting. Josef also served in WWII and after being injured found a beautiful red cross nurse named Erika Grundmann. Josef and Erika married March 10, 1951. In 1953 Josef was on his way to Canada for a new start and Erika would join Josef in Toronto, Canada shortly thereafter. Their life in Canada was fulfilled with working, building lifelong friendships, birth of their only daughter, buying their first home, building a cottage, moving out of the city and buying a grocery store in Combermere, Ontario. Josef and Erika fell in love with Combermere and the residents and eventually built their cherished A-frame home along the river.

Josef was adventurous, an avid mountain climber, skier (snow and water) and nature lover throughout his whole life. He also enjoyed walking, biking, reading, especially National Geographic and spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters.

Josef is survived by his wife Erika, daughter Ute Fenech, son-in-law Noel Fenech, and his three granddaughters, Jenna Fenech-Trocchia (husband Guiseppe Trocchia), Lauren Fenech (fiance Mark Harris), Lindsay Fenech (boyfriend Joseph Pearce) along with sister-in-law Renate Rosenhammer (Ali Rosenhammer), niece Vitti Michel (Olivier), nephew Wolfgang Gangl (Cornelia). He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Adele Rosenhammer, brother Ali Rosenhammer, sister Rita Gangl-Hochmeyer and brother-in-law Helmut Hochmeyer.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Simple Alternative, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga, Ontario, L4W 5J1.
