Dad, I think of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and the days before that too.
I would express our heart felt gratitude for the cards, flowers, compassion and emotional support shown to our family during this difficult time.
Watching the Parkinsonβs disease slowly and deliberately take my father away made the last several years very difficult. I would to thank my mother for her endless care for over the past 10 years as his health declined. I would be remiss if I did not thank my wife Joan who held Ronaldβs hand for hours at a time, at the hospital.
We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have is memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake. With which weβll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart.
My dad loved writing poems, what better to say goodbye then to read one of his many poems.
As The Saying Goes
The saying is as old as the hills
You are here today and gone tomorrow.
But some folks strive to earn,
To spree and and pay bills
And end up with a feeling of sorrow.
Life is short, and time is fleeting,
Another saying thatβs worth repeating,
So be loving and kind,
While on this earth
You canβt reach out under six feet of dirt.
The air is fresh, the spring is clean,
And the moon shines down on you
Flowers bloom, children happy at play
Present a magnificent view.
Dispose of malice,
Envy, hatred and spite,
And you may find a life
Thatβs shining just right.
And as the saying goes,
Be true to yourself, before you can be true to the world,
Is probably true for every man,
Women, boy and girl.
