On October 30, with family at his side and a full but tired heart, Ron shared a final “I love you all” and closed his eyes for the last time. He is profoundly missed by his adored (and adoring) wife Nancy, his children Kim, Terry (Natalia), Susan and Carol; grandchildren Ian (Alicia), Nicholas (Tania), Mel (Jake); Riley and Oliver; and great grandchildren Charlie and Winnie.
Born in Toronto to Jean and William Webb, encouraged and inspired by his loving Aunt Isobel, Ron was the eldest of five (Dennis, David, Lynda and Paul).
Ron attended Victoria College and Osgoode Hall Law School where he met lifelong friends. It was in these days that he met Nancy Doubt, wearing a pair of short white shorts and twirling on a piano stool – head back, laughing. That was the first day of the rest of his life.
After marrying in 1957, Ron and Nancy moved to Brampton to raise their family and build Ron’s career. Ron teamed up with A. Grenville Davis Q.C. and his son, William G. (Bill) Davis, adding the “Webb” to the illustrious Davis Webb LLP. As a highly respected leader in his field of municipal and land development law, the only complaint he ever received from his clients was that his bills were too low.
A beacon of his community, Ron supported former Premier Bill Davis in local campaigns, and multiple Mayors in municipal politics. He served on numerous boards, including the Peel Regional Police Services, Sheridan College, Peel Memorial Hospital, Caledon Ski Club and more. This was never done for praise; however, his efforts were recognized in receiving Mayor Susan Fennell’s Lifetime Achievement Award and being honoured with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Ron and Nancy made many treasured friendships, enjoying a fulfilling social life of raucous dinner parties, card games, travel, tennis matches, golf games, skiing, watching football and movie nights.
Early decisions cemented family time as a priority: skiing, family trips, and buying the beloved family cottage on Georgian Bay – his family was the center of his life and through these activities he instilled the values of togetherness and commitment to one another. Ron skied into his 80’s and continued to enjoy boat rides and time at the cottage this past summer. Regardless of where we were, he always looked happiest when at the dinner table with all his family together.
He was known for his razor-sharp mind, fair and balanced perspective, dry humour, quick wit, and unequivocal support to those he cared about. No problem was too big to solve, personal or professional.
Ron made everyone feel loved in a special way. He held the same interest and fascination for each person in his life. He gave so much, and required little, although we know he received much in return because his loved ones would do anything for him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Georgian Bay Land Trust or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
