Roman Bojmelgrin

May 10, 1927 -  April 24, 2022

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Roman Bojmelgrin on Sunday April 24th, 2022 at age 94. Roman was born in Łódź, Poland (1927) where he lived with his parents, his older brother, his younger brother, and his younger sister. Roman became a youth activist at the age of thirteen in the Antifascist Organization and carried out acts of sabotage and political protests against the Nazis in the Łódź Ghetto.

In 1944, he was deported with his family to Auschwitz. The sole survivor of his family, Roman was transferred and survived different concentrations camps around Germany until he was liberated in Wöbbelin on May 2, 1945. He returned to a liberated homeland where he eventually met his beloved wife, Luboslawa Kowalska. They settled down with their two children in Warsaw, Poland. In 1969, Roman and his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada and created a peaceful life full of family, friends, and loving memories. Roman is predeceased by his wife, Lusia. He is survived by his daughter Helen (Igor) and son Irek (Monica). Dziadzia of Tammy (Bill), Alex (Taylor), and Christine (Andy) and pradziadzia to Sophie, Liam, Aiden, and Heidi.

Special thanks to Roman's caregivers at the Gibson Long Term Nursing Home and the medical personnel at Sunnybrook Hospital.

A memorial visitation will take place in the Bayview Suite at the York Funeral Centre (150 Beecroft Rd, Toronto) on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 from 2-3 p.m.
