In memory of

Robert Stanley McVicar

McVICAR, Robert Stanley “Bob”

It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of Robert Stanley McVicar on December 9, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer at Port Perry Hospital with family at his side. Loving husband of Marian (2016) and wonderful father to Patti (Doug), Rob (Jill) and Doug and caring grandfather to Nick, Drew & Amy (Chris) and their children Mya and Ava. Bob was born on July 17, 1934 to Robert & Elsie and he and his brothers Don (Linda, 2002) and his partner Elaine and the late Bruce (2018) grew up in the east end of Toronto where he attended Wilkinson Public School and Danforth Tech. Bob proudly played first horn in the Queen’s Own Rifles Militia Band, the 2nd Signals Marching Band and the Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps. He was honoured to play The Last Post for Remembrance Day Services at the Cenotaph in downtown Toronto. One of his first jobs was to work in the office manufacturing the Avro Arrow. It was during this time that he met and married Marian on August 1, 1959. They moved to North York where they raised their three children. For many years, Bob volunteered in Hillcrest Village refereeing, umpiring and coaching hockey. He was a fan of sports. For several years he was a Toronto Maple Leaf subscriber. He took great pleasure accompanying his family to see the Leafs, Blue Jays and the Bills. Bob worked for Domtar Packaging, Lawson Packaging and Aluglass Packaging as an Estimator and Production Control Manager.
After a stint in Markham, Bob and Marian retired to Port Perry where they enjoyed many happy years living in Canterbury Commons golfing and participating in the scramble dinners.
He will be forever remembered as a quiet, reserved, good man who loved, sacrificed and was there for his family. Due to the current COVID situation - there will be a private graveside service. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, (South of Taunton Road and off of Dryden Blvd, 905-579-6787). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeridge Health Port Perry Hospital.
