In memory of

Robert McDonald

September 9, 1948 -  October 4, 2023

The family of Robert McDonald is deeply saddened by his passing on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by the mother of his children, Anna; his three daughters, Anna-Marie, Angela (Ian) and Andrea; brother Don (Maureen); sister Jeanette (Ray); grandson Mackenzie; and granddaughters Ella, Lily and Georgia.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 9, 1948, to Danny and Regina McDonald, Robert was a skilled footballer in his youth and a devout supporter of Glasgow Celtic. He had a great passion for music, which he helped instill in his children. He loved the comedic brilliance of Billy Connolly and was well known for his own humorous antics and sharp wit. Robert enjoyed a good action film, a round of golf and the company of friends and family. Above all, he taught his children that people can change for the better.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and the Dialysis Unit at Lakeridge Health Whitby. They also thank all who provided care during the latter years of Robert's life, including the staff at Chartwell Colonial, Whitby, and family physician Dr. David Thow.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, 905-579-6787) on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 1 pm - 4 pm with a ceremony from 2pm - 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society by using the Make a Donation link at the bottom of the page.
