In memory of

Robert Leonard Horwitz

December 11, 1944 -  October 20, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Horwitz in the early morning of October 20th, following a sudden massive stroke while enjoying one of his favourite pastimes, watching the Blue Jays.

Robert was born in Montreal to Jeannette and Elias Horwitz, and was the younger brother of the late Martin Horwitz.

He was the devoted husband and partner in life for more than 54 years to Sandi Horwitz (Pinsky), and a loving father to Tracey Horwitz (Marc Roy) and Elisa Horwitz (Alex Zaphiratos). Treasured Grandpa to Jack, Levi, Zoe and Olivia

He was a cherished uncle to Cindy and Jeffrey, and a proud great-uncle to Jordan and Evan Puritt. He will also be sadly missed by sister-in-law Ana Pinsky and nephews Jeff (Robyn) and Kevin. Special mention to his lifelong friends, Milton and Ruth Schacter

Robert’s greatest joy was his family, whom he loved deeply. After earning his MBA from York University, Robert built a long and fulfilling 30-year career at Procter & Gamble, where he rose through the ranks to serve as treasurer. He was fortunate to retire early and he and Sandi travelled widely for over 25 years.

For more than four decades, Robert’s life was also deeply enriched by his connection to Oraynu Congregation, where he found both meaning and community through his volunteer activities.

Robert will be remembered for his warmth, his love of life, his sense of humour, and his unwavering devotion to his loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre and Cemetery, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, Ontario, on Thursday October 23, 2025, at 11 am. Burial and Reception to follow.

For those who are unable to attend the funeral service it will be livestreamed for public viewing on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. (a link will be available on this memorial page at 10:45 a.m.). After the funeral has been completed the recording will be uploaded to the ‘Media’ tab or future viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Oraynu Congregation for Humanistic Judaism.

Robert will be missed . He was a good friend and a thoughtful colleague who provided support and guidance on a social service agency board. Karen relied on his counsel for several years while enjoying his calm and thoughtful presence. Robert & Sandi were also important contributors to Daniel & Jason’s wedding ceremony.
We celebrate Robert’s life while mourning his passing.

Elisa, Sandi, Tracey and family, I am so so sorry for the loss of your dad/husband. I have such fond memories of driving back and forth to Montreal in our McGill days, Elisa. He always made the trips entertaining, making me laugh with his quiz questions and humor. He was a great man. May his memory always be a blessing. Much love to you all,
Beth Rachlis
