In memory of

Robert Gordon Thackeray

December 15, 1945 -  June 9, 2018

Robert “Bob” Gordon Thackeray
(Dec. 15, 1945 – June 9, 2018)
Passed away peacefully in the early hours of June 9th, 2018 at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa. It was with great sadness, but relief that Bob struggles no longer.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Jo of 48 years. A much loved dad and grandpa, he will be greatly missed by his daughter Robin (Augusto), by his sons Joel (Jodi) & Glenn (Adria), by his grandchildren Owen, A. J., Sebastian, Liam, Sam, Ava, Alexander & Jake; by his sister Ann (Earl), brother Bill, brother-in-law Peter (Judy), nieces & nephews.
Bob retired from General Motors after almost 38 years of service and looked forward to his next chapter in life. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed many hobbies: keeping fish, woodworking, bonsai, badminton, squash, skiing, travelling, golf & oil painting. He belonged to the Oshawa Golf Club for 19 years, and a member of the Oshawa Art Association for many years. He became a very accomplished artist who enjoyed exhibiting his art work at art shows and in galleries. He was able to spend 10 winters in Florida where he pursued his love of golf, plein air painting and his social connection with many friends he had made down south.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of 4F (palliative care floor) at Lakeridge Health for all the wonderful care and support shown to Bob and his family.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 16th, 2018 at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road, North, Oshawa 905-579-6787) from 10:00am until time of service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or Lakeridge Health Foundation.

To the Thackeray Family,.
Jan & I are sore sorry for your loss. Bob was a good friend many years going back to the Oshawa Tennis Club days and then continuing on after at the Oshawa Golf Club. We enjoyed many a good laugh on Tuesday mornings and the golf games have not been the same over the past 2 years for sure.
We are sure you have many fond memories of family times and these will be what keep his memory with you for ever.

I have always admired Bob's paintings ever since I met him in 2000. Little did I know, that we would become friends as I started my journey as an artist and participated in several art shows where Bob was clearly a leading artist! He has encouraged me, supported my art journey and has helped me approach some galleries. Over the years, he would tease me about my abstracted landscapes and we would share stories about everything art. I worked in Currys art store for 13 years and in that time, I would surely see Bob at least every week (unless he is in Florida or Bermuda) and we would always chat. I will miss him.
