It is with great sadness and much love that we share the news that Robert Gordon Brown, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, at Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 84.
Bob was a hard-working entrepreneur, designer, and photographer who, alongside his beloved wife Jeannine, ran a successful design business that they started in 1973. His strong understanding of design, typography and keen eye for detail were evident in both his professional work and personal passions.
From a young age, his passion for creativity was evident. Tragically, the loss of his mother early in life led him to seek work to help support his father. He discovered a talent for hand-lettering signs with remarkable precision, which became his entry into the world of design. This skill opened doors, first at TDF, one of Toronto's premier design studios, and later at Southam-Murray, among Canada's largest printing companies. These experiences provided him with the expertise to eventually establish and run his own successful design business.
Bob was a lifelong learner whose passion for books knew no bounds. Exploring bookstores was his favourite pastime, as he eagerly sought new knowledge and perspectives. His generosity with his vast collection was legendary; merely mentioning a subject would prompt Bob to arrive with a carefully curated stack of amazing books. Beyond his literary pursuits, Bob was an avid Toronto Argos fan. He also remained steadfastly hopeful through the Toronto Maple Leafs seemingly endless 57 "rebuilding years," a testament to his unwavering loyalty and optimism.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeannine, whom he married in 1963. He also leaves behind his two sons, Rick (Susy) and Greg (Martina), as well as four cherished grandchildren: Maddie, Ben, Samantha, and Zack. Bob will be sadly missed by his brother David (Glenda), sister Barb (Ray-deceased). He was predeceased by his sister Fran.
Those who knew Bob will remember him as a truly wonderful and caring person. He was always there when someone needed him, offering his help and support without hesitation. His kindness, generosity, and warm presence will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Bob's life. Invitations will be sent out in the near future by email.
In lieu of flowers, financial contributions in memory of Robert Gordon Brown can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Bob's legacy of creativity, kindness, and lifelong learning will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be forever loved and remembered.
