Robert Campbell Dick, Q.C.

Bob passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 at the age of 96. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorine (nee Elphick), loving father of Liane, Brian (Helayne) and Lisa (Rob) and cherished grandfather of Danielle, Ian, Logan, Hudson, Hunter, Kiara, Ryan and Eric. A wonderful husband, brother, father, uncle, grandpa and friend.

Bob is predeceased by his parents Georgina (nee Campbell) and Robert H. Dick, wife Dorine, sister Sheila (Raney), brother-in-law Wally Siry and survived by his sisters Carol (Siry) and Heather (Gatsby).

Bob was the eldest in his family and was born in Burlington, ON. His parents immigrated to Canada from Scotland, choosing to return briefly to Glasgow when Bob was younger before making Toronto their home. Bob and his sisters grew up in Lawrence Park.

Bob graduated with Honours from University of Toronto, followed by Osgood Hall Law School and was called to the Bar in 1953. Shortly thereafter he met the love of his life, Dorine, with whom he enjoyed many special memories in their 62 wonderful years of marriage.

In 1966, Bob received the honorary title of Queens Counsel or Q.C. – recognizing his exceptional contributions to the legal profession.

Bob became renowned as a pioneer in legal drafting (drafting contracts in plain English), publishing three editions of his book and a law student handbook. To this day, his book is available in over 85 law libraries around the world.

Bob was a proud, founding member of Parkwoods United Church and faithfully attended until 2017. He also served as a Trustee for the church.

Bob also had the gift of languages and would always greet and chat everyone he knew in their preferred language. He immensely enjoyed sports and introduced tennis, golf and downhill skiing to Dorine and his children. That sports passion carried forward as Liane, Brian and Lisa all continue to enjoy sports, particularly tennis.

While his accomplishments were many including President of the Donalda Club, Bob was most fond of spending time with his family. He was also incredibly proud of his eight grandchildren in the GTA and Boston, and loved family gatherings in his home. Bob was always thrilled to hear about the amazing things his grandchildren were doing and he was very fond of them all.

Bob will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Bob’s sense of humour and love of life will always be remembered.

We would like to give a special thanks to Florence, Grace, Sally and Elizabeth whose wonderful care for Bob made him so incredibly happy living at home in Don Mills.

A celebration of Bob’s Life with family and friends will take place on Saturday October 21st from 1-3 pm at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in the Hickory & Gingko Suites (upper level).
