In memory of

Rita Laville

May 19, 1941 -  December 10, 2019

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Rita Laville, our loving and devoted mother on December 10, 2019, peacefully at Ian Anderson House hospice in her 78th year.

Born in the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies, Rita was one of six children. Seeking a better life, she immigrated to Canada with our father Dindale, with whom she maintained a life-long friendship. Rita worked for many years as an assembler at Northern Telecom before taking a well-deserved retirement. Rita was a wonderful cook, baker and seamstress, who delighted in having her family around her. Many a happy hour was spent gathered around her table, swapping stories and sharing food and laughter or watching her favorite sports, football and hockey. A talented gardener, Rita could coax even the most stubborn plants into bloom with her gentle care.

Beloved mother of Dale, Peter and Michelle; proud grandmother of Jake, Sarah and Ella, Rita’s children and grandchildren were the centre of her world. Our love for our mother and memories of her kindness will remain with us always, and the values she instilled in us will forever be a guiding force in our lives.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at Ian Anderson House, whose compassionate care allowed mom to live out her last days in dignity and comfort.

A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation & Funeral Centres, 7732 Mavis Rd., Brampton, Ontario, on Monday, December 16th, 2019. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., Service at 11:00 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Ian Anderson House in lieu of flowers.

I will miss Rita so much. She’s been such a part of my life for the last 25 years. When Peter first introduced us, she instantly welcomed me as a daughter and always included me in every family event, which meant so much to me. Throughout the last few years, even while she struggled with her health, she was always smiling, and in her own quiet way, doing everything she could to keep all the people she loved focused on the things that matter. Love, forgiveness, wisdom and courage - the qualities she possessed in abundance, she passed on to her children and grandchildren. They are her legacy and I know that she will be with them always. God bless her and keep her in His embrace.
