It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Christou on April 24, 2026. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her gentle nature, and the kindness she offered so easily to others.
One of the greatest joys of her life was becoming a grandmother. She first met her grandson, Nicolas, in Canada when he was three years old, a visit filled with laughter, discovery, and the quiet pride she carried in seeing her family grow. She later travelled to Cyprus in 2012 to celebrate the baptism of her second grandchild, Efremia, a moment that meant a great deal to her. In 2024, she was reunited with her family once again during a summer-long visit to Canada, where she met her third grandchild, Meria, and created memories that will be cherished forever.
During that visit, she found a special companion in little Meria, her cooking partner. The two spent time together in the kitchen, sharing simple joys, stirring pots, tasting ingredients, and creating moments that blended love, patience, and playfulness. Those shared afternoons became some of her happiest memories.
Even after those visits, she remained deeply connected to her grandchildren. Weekly phone calls became a source of happiness for her, hearing their voices, listening to their stories, and feeling close to them despite the miles between. She often forgot the seven‑hour time difference, calling at unexpected hours, but it became one of those endearing quirks the family will always smile about.
She also looked forward to the future with hope. She often spoke about the day when Nicolas would come to Canada after the army for his studies and be close to her again, a thought that filled her with pride and anticipation.
Rita found joy in the simple beauty of the world. She loved the beach, the warmth of the sun, the feel of sand beneath her feet, and the peace of the sea. Her trips to places like Cabo & Aruba were among her happiest moments, where she felt free, relaxed, and surrounded by the things she loved most.
In 2023, she faced a serious illness that required a month-long hospital stay. Through that challenge, she showed resilience and determination, taking steps to manage her health and continue forward. Those who knew her speak of her as a warm-hearted, caring soul who made people feel welcome and valued.
She leaves behind her daughter, Christina, her son‑in‑law Andreas, and her beloved grandchildren, Nicolas, Efremia, and Meria, who brought her immense joy. She is also remembered by extended family and friends who were touched by her kindness and gentle spirit.
Her memory will live on in the moments she shared, the love she gave, and the stories her family will continue to tell.
May she rest in peace.
