It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Rita Leonora Ahong, who departed this life peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by her devoted family in Toronto, Ontario.

Rita was born in Trinidad & Tobago to the late, Oliver and Ena Lee. She was the third of four children and spent her early years in both Trinidad and Barbados. After the passing of her mother, she was lovingly raised by her adoptive mother Ada “Nennie” Belgrave.

Rita moved back to Trinidad where she met and married John “Sonny” Kenrick Ahong (predeceased, 1982) in 1959. Together, they built a life centered on family and faith. In 1988, Rita immigrated to Canada with her five children, where the family has remained united.

Rita was the heart of the Ahong family – a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose unwavering support and strength touched everyone around her. Her greatest joy in life was her family and she will be remembered as the light that guided them and the glue that held them together.

She is survived by her children, Richard, Carol, Wendy, Susan, and Brenda; her cherished grandchildren, Timothy, Kyle, David, Giselle, Kevin, Janelle, and Daniel; and her precious great grandchildren, George, Eleanor, and Sunny. She is also survived by her brother, Arthur Horsford.

Rita is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Sonny; her brothers, George Lee and Michael Horsford; her parents, Oliver and Ena Lee, and adoptive mother, Nennie Belgrave.

A memorial service to honour Rita’s life will be held at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Rd., North York, ON, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
