On January 2, 2023, after a long battle with cancer and one day before his 76th birthday, Rick passed away. For years, Rick fought and conqured fhe odds but eventually his body was too tired continue the fight. Rick was an active member of IBEW for 50 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and was a great and neighbour. Rick was predeceased by his parents Gord and Betty McConnell and his brothers Tom and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Carol (Hetherington), his children Michael (Rose) and Kristine and his grandchildren Ethan, Andrew, Hunter and Hailey. He will be missed greatly by family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 14, 2023 at 3:00pm at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre located at 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough, M1K 1R1. A visitation before the service will begin at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Society of Canada or Sunnybrook Foundation in Rick's name.
