In memory of

Richard George Chan

June 9, 1965 -  February 15, 2023

Richard passed away quietly in his sleep, in his Toronto apartment.

Richard will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and great uncle. He was born in Toronto ON, to mother Liu Ping Chan and predeceased father King Fook Chan. Survived by 3 sisters, Shirley, her family, Susan, her family, and Sandra.

Richard was caring and had a rebellious wild spirit and adventurous nature. He loved to ski, snowboard and in particularly he loved to bike. He enjoyed music, playing his guitar and had a soft spot for animals, especially for dogs. He was happiest when he was with his pet dog Emerald and his late dog Buddy.

Richard will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His warm and enthusiastic greetings and cheerful smile will be forever fondly remembered.

Richard and family.

We will remember our wonderful chats, listening to your music on Sunday mornings while you cleaned your apartment, and sharing ideas and thoughts. Your heart is kind and genuine. Emerald reflected your personality perfectly, and she will carry your spirit in whole.

We miss you.

Richard was always a very nice man. Always saying hello.
There are many in the community that will miss seeing Richard and his dog, Emerald.

Richard was well known in the community. Primarily by his incredible memory as he greeted everyone by name, his ability to train his dogs to walk closely without a leash, his love of bikes and pride in being well dressed. Richard loved to engage in conversation and learn about the people in his neighbourhood.
I know he would want nothing more than for his dog Emerald to be well taken care of and placed in a loving home. Emerald is well loved in this community and holds a special place in many of our hearts.
Many sympathies to his family and friends for his loss.
You're at peace now Richard and will always be remebered.

I didn’t know Richard very well personally, just to say hello at the dog park and in passing on the street. However, you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. Emerald is a gem, and it was clear that they had a very special relationship. May his soul rest in peace, and condolences to the family!

I came to meet Richard and Emerald at the local dog park on Wildwood when Emerald was a small puppy. Over the months Richard was so kind, thoughtful, and engaging with my new rescue dog Sisi - so patient and caring towards her. Seeing Richard and watching Emerald grow up as they walked by and with friendly waves and conversations was always a bright spot in the community. Richard had a great memory for personal details. His smiles and positivity will be missed. My deepest condolences for your loss. I hope Richard is at peace and that Emerald will continue to be loved in her new home.
