In memory of

Ricardo Pena Catibog

December 18, 1935 -  March 21, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Ricardo, on March 21, 2020 at the age of 84; cherished husband of Primitiva for 62 years; loving father of Wilfredo (Jennifer), Edith, Evelyn (Roy), Alex (Esther), Ellen (Gerald), Ricardo Jr.; proud grandfather to Jonathan (Sandy), Jordan, Bryan, Ashleigh, Amanda, Andrew, Ryan, Elise, Liane, Alexandra, Jacob, Kaitlin, adoring great-grandfather of Hailey and Kaiden. Survived by his siblings Nelia, Jovita, Tony (Ligaya), Yolanda (Roberto) and Estrella (Angelo), he will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Reynalda and Peter Diawatan, whose kindness and generosity throughout the years has ensured that Ricardo’s life was filled with joy.

Ricardo graduated in 1967 from Feati University, Philippines in Mechanical Engineering; in 1972 he emigrated to Canada to search for a better future for himself and his family. He was kind, generous and was a great believer in giving back. He helped many of his family and friends in emigrating to Canada and is well respected in his Seventh Day Adventist church community. His quick wit, ready smile and sense of humour brightened every day.

The family is grateful to the many nurses and doctors that cared for him in Scarborough Centenary and Toronto Western Hospital. Labouring under extraordinary challenges, they maintained the utmost professionalism and humanity.

A memorial service to celebrate Ricardo’s life will be held at a later date.

Dearest Tatay, "Who could know for certain, may be you're still here. I feel you all around me, your memory so clear. Deep in the stillness I can hear you speak, I'll cherish all you gave me everyday....Fly me up to where you are upon the distant star. I wish upon tonight to see you smile and only for a while to know you're there, a breath's away is not far to where you are..." Thank you for teaching me to be courageous, to be kind, generous and compassionate. My heart is so heavy I'm afraid it may physically break. I love and miss you Tatay. May you rest in peace knowing that we will look after Mom for the rest of her life......Evelyn.....
