Rhena Hyma (née Van Zuiden), born October 29, 1930, in Chatham, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario, at the age of 94. Rhena was predeceased by her guardian parents Frank and Trientje Flach, beloved husband, Richard; siblings, Ann Denkers and Thomas Van Zuiden; and son-in-law, Robert Jotautas.
A dedicated and compassionate woman, Rhena graduated as a Registered Nurse from Ontario Nursing College and pursued a fulfilling career in nursing, later transitioning to bookkeeping and investing. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life, as she was a devoted wife, grandmother, and supporter of her parents and extended family. Rhena’s warmth and hospitality made everyone feel welcome in her presence.
She leaves, to mourn, her three children: Catherine, David (Katherine), and Don (Christine); five grandchildren: Michael (Jillian), Rebecca (Eric), Jeffrey, Gregory (Priscilla), and Laura; and six cherished great-grandchildren: Jack, Max, Ben, John, Victoria, and Lucas.
Rhena was known for her love of gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking; bringing beauty and care to every aspect of her life. She was also an active member of the Rotary Annes club, where her commitment to community shone brightly. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holland Christian Homes and to Rhena’s devoted personal caregiver of 12 years, Brigitte Meyer, for their exceptional care and support.
