In memory of

Reverend Frederick John Reed

December 2, 1927 -  December 4, 2023

Reverend Frederick John Reed

Reverend Frederick John Reed, of Oshawa, passed peacefully on Dec. 4, 2023, having just attained his 96th birthday. His early career followed his father into house building and carpentry but at the age of 33, he felt the call of the ministry. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1966 and passionately embraced this career until his retirement from Bonar-Parkdale Presbyterian Church, Toronto. He was a gifted vocalist and many recall the booming voice from the pulpit when he sang. One of his favourites was “This World is Not My Home” and surely he is now at home in the loving arms of the Father.

He is pre-deceased by his daughter Gloria Rau, son Paul Reed and grandson Adam Reed. He is survived by loving wife and partner of 47 years Hazel, sister Janet, sons James (Louise), Marc (Sandy), Brian Wilson (Kathryn), daughters Rhonda Bennett (Bob, deceased), Debbie Durand, Grandchildren Maya, Sean, Stephanie, Jason, Sarah, Jessica, Paul, Nicole, Daniel, Nicholas, Great Grandchildren Ethan, Owen, Hannah, Alex, Luke and William.

My deepest condolences to all the family. Fred had a sweet, kind smile, twinkling eyes and infectious laugh. I have fond memories of Fred & his children singing at nursing homes at Christmas & his beautiful Christmas Eve services at Church. (Always insisting I be up front joining in the events, even though I could not sing a note)
Fred will be dearly missed.

I remember the Reverend Fred Reed from Gale Presbyterian Church, Elmira. I was just a child at the time, but I do have clear memories of him. My heartfelt sympathy to your family. My prayers are with you.
