Lynne, Ruth and Claire Slater are deeply saddened to announce the death of our father, Peter Slater, on Thursday April 9, 2026. He died peacefully with his daughters at his side.

Predeceased by his wife, Rev. Dr. Joanne McWilliam (2008) and his brother Dr. John Slater (2013), he is lovingly remembered by his daughters and their mother Helen, sons-in-law Bob and Jim, grandchildren Alex, Joshua, Bren, Fiona, Brigit, Drew, Kenan, Jennifer and Devin, nieces Wendy, Catherine and Johanna and their mother Irene, and step-family Leslie (Philip), Elizabeth (George), Sean (Lori), Gonzalo (Ivette), Gabrielle, Genevieve, James, Christopher, Alison, Karen, Geoffrey, Nora, George, and Anne Marie, Joanna and Marc Francis and their mother Joan.

The Rev. Dr. Peter Slater was born in England, raised in Burma, Australia, and Canada. He held degrees in philosophy and theology from McGill, Cambridge, and Harvard universities. Former Dean of Divinity and Professor Emeritus of Theology at Trinity College, U of T, he was past president of the Canadian and the American Theological Societies.

Dr. Slater served as an Honorary Assistant at Christ Church Deer Park where his funeral will take place on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, at 11 am. Following the service, a reception will be held at Christ Church Deer Park in Elliott Hall.
