Reuf Alimerko
February 4, 1936 - August 6, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Reuf was born in Tragjas, Vlora, Albania. He moved to Toronto, Canada in 2014 to be close to his daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his doting wife of 55 years, Violeta, daughters Albina and Nevila, son-in-law Ben and his grandchildren, whom he was proud of and loved very much, Andi, Tedi, and Matteo. Overseas in Albania, he is survived by his brothers Pasho, Vaso and Gavrosh, and sister Regina.

Reuf worked as a Telecommunications Engineer at the Albanian Ministry of Defense for more than 3 decades until his retirement in 1982. He was a devout atheist, inveterate Russophile, undisputed family chess champion, and most easily, a good man of profound decency. It has been said that the idea is to die young—but as late as possible—and that is how Reuf lived his days: ever curious, with a youthful and cheery mindset. He had an appreciation for life that was pure and contagious, finding and capturing joy in a range of situations that ran the gamut from the seasonally mundane—the melting of the snow—to the situationally absurd—masked family visits at a distance during the early months of the Pandemic. The man was never bored; there was too much to know, learn, and explore. He was always busy, but at no time too busy to share all he had with his loved ones. The ultimate form of happiness is to love and be loved, and he was the natural top scorer on both counts.

Reuf will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will be held on August 14, 2021 from 1 pm to 2 pm. Funeral procession will begin at 2:30 pm at:

Me trishtim te thelle ju njoftojme ndarjen nga jeta te bashkeshortit, babait dhe gjyshit te dashur. Reufi u lind ne Tragjas te Vlores, ne Shqiperi. Ai u zhvendos ne Toronto, Kanada ne 2014 per te jetuar prane vajzave dhe niperve te tij.

Reufi le pas bashkeshorten e perkushtuar Violeten me te cilen sapo festoi 55 vjetorin e marteses, vajzat e tij Albinen dhe Nevilen, dhendrrin Benin, dhe niperit e tij, te cilet i donte dhe krenohej. Ne Shqiperi, ai le pas vellezerit e tij Pashon, Vason, Gavroshin, dhe motren Rexhinen.

Reufi ishte Inxhinier telekomunikacioni prane Ministrise Shqiptare te Mbrojtjes per me shume se tre dekada, deri ne daljen ne pension ne 1982. Ai ishte nje ateist i devotshem, nje rusofil i palekundur, kampion i padiskutuar i shahut ne familje, dhe nje burre shembullor dhe thellesisht modest. Thuhet se eshte mire te vdesesh i ri por sa me vone te jete e mundur, dhe keshtu i jetoi Reufi ditet e tij: gjithnje kurioz, dhe me mendesi te re dhe optimiste. Ai e vleresonte jeten dhe gjente gezim ne cdo situate, duke nisur nga mondaniteti i nderrimit te stineve, si per shembull shkrirja e bores, deri tek absurditeti i vizitave me maska me familjaret gjate muajve te pandemise. Ky burre nuk merzitej kurre; kishte shume gjera per te ditur, per te mesuar, dhe eksploruar. Reufi ishte gjithnje i zene, por asnjehere aq i zene sa te mos ndante gjithcka kishte me te dashurit e tij. Lumturia me e madhe eshte te duash dhe te te duan dhe ai i kishte te dyja.

Reufi do t'u mungoje thellesisht te gjithe atyre qe e njohen. Sherbimi funeral do te mbahet nga ora 13:00 deri ne 14:00 (ora lokale ne Toronto) diten e shtune data 14 gusht 2021, i ndjekur nga nje procesion qe fillon ne oren 14:30
