Raymond Henry Peterson

October 2, 1935 -  November 14, 2019

Raymond Henry Peterson passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on November 14th, 2019 at North York General Hospital.

Born in Sydney, Australia in 1935, Ray lived an extraordinary life travelling the world, watching thousands of films and sharing a lifetime of laughter with his family and friends. Ray was the loving husband of Meling Johnston and exceptional father and lifelong friend of Steven and his wife Carole. Proud grandfather of Kieran (Sarah) and Alyssa (Josh). Dear brother-in-law of Bob and Eileen Clark, and Michael and Christine Finnerty. Caring uncle of Sean and Bryan Finnerty. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Jean, and his brothers Robert and James. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family in Australia.

Ray will be fondly remembered for his gentle caring nature, kind generosity and endless sense of humour.

A cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Sunday, December 1st at 12:00 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Funeral Centre.

The family is immensely grateful for the excellent care received from the nurses and physicians at North York General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Medicine (Hematology Department).

Steven, Carol, Kieran and Alyssa - our sincerest condolences. We met Ray only a few times, but it felt as if we knew him well through the stories and anecdotes you shared about him. He was clearly a wonderful man and a terrific father and grandfather. So sorry for your loss. Love, Will and Arlene

My thoughts are with you all.

I only knew Ray when I was a child, as he had left Sydney for Japan before I was a teenager, but I heard the stories from my Sydney family of his life and wonderful family.

While Director of Marketing and Communications at MMM Group between 1990 and 2010 I had occasion to employ Ray's Cambridge Communications many times to teach effective writing skills to engineers and other technical staff. His courteous, professional manner, his gentle humour and his great command of his subject meant I was often approached by managers to get him back for another evening or weekend session! Many of MMM's former staff will remember Ray with affection, as will I.
