In memory of

方耀恆先生 Rayman Yiu Hang Fong

September 21, 1936 -  February 18, 2022

Passed away peacefully at home in his 86th year, leaving his devoted wife Wendy Hang Kwan Fong (Kwan).

Beloved son of Deep Fong and Sing Tai Fong (Wong). Mourned and forever remembered by his two children Jenny (Chris) and Bill (Audrey) and five grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew (Nancy), Katie, Bronwyn and Blake. They wish they could have had more time with him.

Rayman was born in the village of Hoiping, Guangdong Province, during unsettled times in 1930s China. His father was abroad in the United States working to support the family when World War II began. Rayman lost his mother during the course of the war and was raised by his grandmother. An avid student from childhood, he earned his degree in structural engineering from National Tung Chi University in Shanghai in 1959.

He lived and worked as an engineer for almost a decade in Hong Kong where he and Wendy started their family. As a young father, he was determined to secure a future of peace and opportunity for his children by arranging for his family to come to Canada. Their arrival in Canada in 1969 marked the beginning of their new life. As Rayman sought work, the family lived in various places in British Columbia, Yukon Territories, Alberta and Saskatchewan before finally settling in Toronto. Because his education and work experience were not recognized in Canada, he enrolled in night classes at the University of Toronto to re-establish his engineering credentials. He requalified as a Civil Engineer in 1980 and continued to excel in his profession until retirement.

Rayman’s lifetime of hard work is dedicated to his children, grandchildren and future generations of the family, to ensure that they would have freedom and choice to build fulfilling and meaningful lives of their own. To him, they offer their love, respect and gratitude.
