In memory of

Ratko Mizdrak

December 1, 1967 -  March 2, 2022

Ratko Mizdrak’s devotion to his family and friends, love for life, and endless kindness will be remembered with love long after his passing.

Ratko left us on March 2, 2022 at the age of 54 after a short and difficult illness, surrounded by his closest family.

People were simply drawn to him. The easy comfort he brought to a room and anyone in it made him a frequent host and guest alike. It was a joy to be by him, laughing uncontrollably, eating delicious food cooked either by his extraordinary wife Ljiljana or baked in his own peka. His loss is devastating, grieved deeply by an entire community, a community in which he was the glue. He was a devoted father and husband, an extremely successful one, who together with his wife raised two wonderful children, Sanja and Stefan, and accepted their respective partners into his home with open arms, becoming their beloved father figure. His wife cherishes the life they built together. His mother, brother, uncle, extended family, childhood friends and colleagues miss his support, company and wisdom every day. His nieces and nephews appreciate all the candy he gave them in secret. In the ways he is grieved, it’s apparent that Ratko was not just a man of words, but a man of action and lasting impact. He was bedrock, a figure to lean and depend on in tough times. To honour Ratko and his memory is to love fiercely, to drink rakija while belting out narodna or domaća muzika and to live in the present - to live life to the fullest.

Ratko is survived by his wife, Ljiljana; his children Sanja and Stefan, son-in-law Ryan, mother Ika, brother Sasa and his family, uncle Nikola and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Mile.

The news about Ratko passing found me in a big shock. His kindness and helpfulness will be remembered. Cheering for our son’s soccer teams was not the same without him being there. Stefan and Mario became good friends outside the soccer field and brought our families closer. My deepest condolences to Ljiljana, Sanja and Stefan. Ratko will live in our memories.

Sava and I were saddened by the news of Ratko's passing. I have lovely memories of our conversations on his short lunch breaks during home renovations. He enjoyed having an espresso with a little rakija on the side. Ratko had the kindest heart and infectious smile and talked about his family with pride.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family.
