In memory of

Raquel Martin

June 2, 1928 -  February 1, 2022

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Raquel (“Coca”), our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the age of 93 years, after a long illness. Coca will be lovingly remembered by her sons Luis (Leanne), Claudio (Linda), and Diego (Fern); her grandchildren Michael (Emily), Katy (Brennen), Jason (Monica), Phillip, and Grace; and her great-children Jack, Jacob, and Kieran. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Julio, and her brother Mito Javkin. Coca led an active life of two careers; both as a homemaker and mother of three energetic boys, and as an English as a Second Language teacher where she helped many new immigrants adapt to their new homes. She will be remembered for her love of the arts (ballet in particular), her smile and acerbic wit in balance with her strength and kindness to people in need. Coca will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, next to Julio. There will be no funeral service at this time as her family and friends are dispersed around the globe, and in consideration of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. A virtual celebration of her life is planned for June 2, 2022. Those wishing to attend should contact one of the sons. Family and friends wishing to make donations should do so to Médecins Sans Frontiers or the National Ballet of Canada.

Very dear Granny, I will miss you very much! Though the last years were very tough to watch I will certainly remember all the good times we had! You were my partner in crime when shopping, you for your scarf collection and me for any fashion item that grabbed my eye! You were the" scarf lady" for sure, the brighter the better! We had lots of laughs together! I will remember all the great family dinners and parties you had.
May you rest in peace now beside your beloved Julio. You have a SPECIAL place in my heart. Much Love Always!
