PHAN, Quan Quôc
On Monday, June 10th, 2024, at the age of 68, Quan Phan, loving partner, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, passed away surrounded by his family.
Quan, the eldest of six children, was born on April 16th, 1956 to Phan Vãn Chiêu and Tran Thi Ùa in Saigon, Vietnam. His love for adventure started at an early age. As a child, Quan would spend countless hours outdoors exploring and creating mischief with his younger siblings. It was during this time that Quan discovered his love for fishing, a passion that he would later share with his children. His thirst for knowledge was a lifelong pursuit. As a dedicated student, Quan completed his studies and was on course to pursue a career in Law, an accomplishment which made both of his parents very proud. Quan is remembered as a devoted son and protector to his five siblings.
In 1979, Quan would begin his life in Canada where he met his wife, Maria. He affectionately nicknamed her Rosie. Together the two built a life and family in Toronto, Ontario. He loved taking family trips to Niagara Falls, where he would spend the day fishing and playing his guitar by the camp fire. Quan’s greatest joy in life was being a husband and father to his five children. It was this love that fueled his entrepreneurial spirit. One of Quan’s greatest dreams was to become a restaurant owner. He brought this dream to fruition in 2004 when he opened his first of three restaurants.
Quan had a true passion for life. He enjoyed travelling, gardening, but his claim to fame was his extensive collection of antique swords and artifacts. When he wasn’t working, you could find Quan at an antique show or sculpting away on his garden which he adored. He loved sharing a warm meal surrounded by his family, and nothing topped his love of food more than a medium rare steak with sunny-side-up eggs, and toasted French baguette. Most of all, Quan was known for working hard, giving the most helpful and sage advice, and, most importantly, for always putting his family first.
Quan is survived by his loving wife, Maria Phan, his children; Stephanie (Alexander) Popov, Christina (Jonathan) Phan-Langdon, Melanie Phan, Diana (Kevin) Stewart, and Derek (Sarah) Phan, his beautiful grandchildren; Nyssa, Sylas, Mila, Isla, Lily and Sienna, his siblings; Huy (Lan) Phan, Chi Phan, Phi (Tuan) Huynh, Phong (Mai) Phan, and Trang (Vince) Facchini, along with his adored nieces, nephews and extended family.
