In memory of

Poi Fan Fong

December 25, 1932 -  December 29, 2021

On December 29th, 2021, the world lost Poi Fan (“Kenny”) Fong (age 89). He was a beloved father, husband, brother, son, grandfather, and friend to many. He fought the ravages of COPD, Alzheimer’s and many other ailments and lived a full and long life.

Born in Hoiping, China on December 25th, 1932, Poi Fan was predeceased by both of his parents, his sister, Mei Quan and her husband Peter, his first wife, Lo Pui Tsing and first son, Perry. He is survived by his second wife, Kwai Yuet, sisters Donna Wing-Lewis (Erich) and Shelley Wing, and children Lena (Rick), Nancy (Dave), Alden (Kathy), Brian (Cynthia), and Kenneth Jr. Proud grandfather to Kyra, Juliette, Madeline, and Alexander.

Poi Fan emigrated from China to the U.S., and then made his way to the inhospitably cold climate of Northern Ontario and then eventually Toronto, where he settled down to raise a family. After tragedy struck and he lost his first wife and son, he remarried and expanded his family with several more children. He will be remembered as an excellent cook, (hi)story teller, and avid sports fan of, in particular, professional wrestling, the Canadian Football League and of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Profound gratitude goes to medical professionals like Doctors Hum (GP), Fraser (respirology), and Naidu (cardiology), as well as various other doctors and nurses at Michael Garron and St. Michael’s hospitals, respectively, who have supported him over the past decades.

There will be an interment at Mount Pleasant cemetery (375 Mount Pleasant Rd.), with a visitation on Wednesday, January 5th at 1:00 p.m., and a private funeral service at 2:00 p.m. This will be a full vaccination event and we respectfully ask that all attendees follow COVID protocols including mask wearing.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in memory to either the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada

Mr Fong you are what the world needs more of. I was lucky to know you, and.. and will be very missed, but not gone. Spending time chatting on your front deck was a pleasure,
leaving me with a smile, and a honk on the horn, and a wave from each other.
Mr Fong you touched many and will be missed...but not gone.
Love to you and the family.
Tony
