On the evening of May 31, 2024, Ping “Rachel” Chen, age 51, passed away after a brave battle with breast cancer, surrounded by family and friends at Mackenzie Health Hospital, Richmond Hill, ON.

Rachel was born on January 15, 1973 in Shaoyang County in Hunan, China to Anji Chen and Deying Zheng. She studied at Shenzhen University and worked at what is now China Telecom, where she met her husband Xianhui “Raymond” Xie. They immigrated to Canada in 2000, where they raised two children, Vicky and Alexander. Rachel was a loving and devoted mother who worked tirelessly and bravely to provide for her family, and stayed optimistic and strong in her faith up until the very end.

She is survived by her two children, Vicky Xie and Alexander Xie; her parents, Anji Chen and Deying Zheng; and her two older brothers, Guo Chen and Lin Chen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Xie, who passed away 11 months earlier after a thirteen-year battle with cancer.

Her funeral will be held on June 8, 2024 at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre, Richmond Hill, with visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M., the funeral service from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., and the burial afterwards.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Richmond Hill Christian Community Church, the Zhejiang University Alumni Association, and countless other friends and family for their steadfast and generous support throughout this difficult time.
Rachel will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
