Surrounded by his children, Ping Chung Leung passed away on October 21st, 2025, at the age of 85 at his home.

Ping Chung Leung was born in Hong Kong, China on September 14th 1940. In order to escape poverty and looking for an opportunity to better his life and his family’s, he immigrated to Trinidad and Tobago, where through determination and grit, he became a successful shopkeeper, then a respected restaurateur. In keeping with the drive to provide a better life for his family, in 1988 they immigrated to Canada, after which he continued his career as a restaurateur.

Ping Chung Leung was an avid advocate of Hakka culture as shown with his involvement in the Fui Toong On Society in Trinidad and Tobago, then later on in Toronto, Canada serving on the board of directors for over 30 years.

He will be dearly missed by his four children, Amelia (Randol), James, Winston and Cindy (DaYong); his grandchildren, Nicholas (Steffanie), Alexander (Victoria), Jamieson and Sapphire; his great granddaughter, Lexi; his brother Jeffrey Yip (Louise), his brother-in-law Phillip Tam, predeceased by his sister Suzanne Tam, as well as many dear family and friends.

The family extends their gratitude to the kindhearted members of the North York General Palliative Care team, especially Dr. Daphna Grossman and Nurse Practitioner Shannon Poyntz. The family would also like to acknowledge the excellent At-Home Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, Alison Webster and her team, for their diligent, kind and caring service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in his honour to: Fui Toong On Society.

The funeral will be held at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, at 160 Beecroft Rd.
North York, ON M2N 5Z5, on Thursday 23rd October, 2025. Visitation is at 4 - 5 pm, with the funeral service to follow at 5 pm.
