– Phyllis Myrtle May Coombs

Phyllis Myrtle May Coombs, affectionately known as “Mama Myrtle,” to those who knew her, passed away on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, of natural causes at Scarborough General Hospital.
Phyllis was born on January 14th, 1931, in Milford, Ocho Rios, Jamaica to the late Eustace and Edith Coombs. She had eight siblings, of which only one surviving sister remains, Essie Scott.
She is survived by her five children, Juliet, Doward, Derek, Dervent, and Tannis, and predeceased by her daughter, Laurine. Phyllis leaves behind over 25 grand and great grandchildren.
She was known as “Mama Myrtle” to many who saw her as a substitute mother because of her welcoming, loving, and hospitable personality to all, treating them as if they were her own children.
Mama Myrtle was a God fearing and Spiritual woman, who loved going to church and praising the Lord.
Prior to Covid, and her illness, she could be found at her beloved Church, St. Stephen’s-In-the Fields Anglican Church, helping in whatever capacity she could.
Phyllis will sadly be missed.
We take comfort through our tears, and sorrows, knowing that though she may be gone from us, she is now present with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Deepest condolences to the family. Mama Myrtle was such a wonderful individual. She was so kind and thoughtful to my Dad her deceased Brother-in-law Nesbert, and he thought the world of her. I will certainly miss my phone conversations with her. May she rest in eternal peace 🕊️.

My condolences to the family. Back in high school I think I pretty much called Tannis every day. On most days, Phyllis would answer the phone. She always greeted me with kindness and warmth. To this day, I remember her voice and the way she would say, "Tannis, it's Jennifer."

Momma Myrtle, Unforgettable you. Each time I think about you, it put a smile on my face, and always will. There will never be another you. You will alway occupy a special place in my heart and in my memories. You will always be here with us, maybe not physically, but in spirit. You will be missed by all.
